ISO 14001:2015 GAP Analysis

The GAP analysis will cover all the requirements of ISO 14001:2015

A gap analysis is used to evaluate your Environmental Management System against the new requirements of ISO 14001:2015. The focus of the audit will be to identify what management system measures are in place, and what needs to be developed, areas where processes are in place, but documentation is needed.

Documentation review will consist of verifying the status of the documents, the need to revise them for the new system requirements, or if they can be used as is. The final outcome of a gap audit is to identify what needs to be put in place to comply with ISO 14001:2015.

 

ISO 14001:2015 Internal Audits 

The ISO 14001:2015 Internal Audits will cover all the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 and is performed by Environmental Legal Services on behalf of the organisation.

During an Internal Audit, the organisation's compliance is evaluated against its Environmental Management System and the requirements of ISO 14001:2015.

 

Combined ISO 14001 and Legal Compliance Audits

Organisations are mandated with all types of audits that need to be done in terms of General Environmental Legal Compliance, Environmental Authorization’s, Licenses, EmPr’s and Environmental Management Systems.

 

Contractor Performance Assessments

Management of contracts is not an easy task and contractor activities in many cases cause non-conformances in terms of Environmental and Health and Safety Legislation as well as Environmental Management Systems. 

Environmental Legal Services is skilled to conduct Contractor Performance Assessments on all contractors on site and off which assessments includes the verification of compliance with your Environmental Management System, ISO 14001, Environmental Legislation, Occupational Health and Safety Contract in place and any other requirements that the contractor has to adhere to.

 

Web based Aspect and Impact Registers

To assist our clients in complying with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 14001:2015 we develop web based Aspect and Impact Registers which link to our web based Environmental Legal Registers. The web based Aspect and Impact Registers are specifically developed to be client and site specific.

The salient features of our web based Registers include:

  • The Aspect Registers can be edited on line by the client
  • New aspects can be added or removed anywhere in the document by the client
  • Continuous updating of the legal references
  • E-mail notifications to Environmental Legal Services informing us that a change has been made to the Registers ensuring prompt updating of legal references
  • E-mail notifications to the client when legal references are updated
  • Full history of all previous revisions to the Registers
  • PDF exportable and printable
  • Document control requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 14001:2015 are complied with
  • Authorizations such as Licences, Permits, Registrations and Exemptions can be hyperlinked to the Registers

Waste Assessments

Environmental legislation on Waste Management has changes significantly over the last few years, placing strict obligations on generators, managers and transporters of waste.  To ensure compliance with the new strict requirements, we conduct full waste management assessments.
 
A detailed waste assessment as a minimum includes - 
 
  • A review of legal compliance to the  and its applicable regulations and norms and standards;National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008
  • A determination as to whether a waste management licence as per the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 is required;
  • A review of the following as required in terms of GN R634 of 23 August 2013 - Waste Classification and Management Regulations - 
  1. origin of the waste streams;
  2. current disposal methods;
  3. current waste classification and assessment prior to disposal to landfill;
  4. safety data sheets;
  5. waste manifest system;
  6. labelling of containers;
  7. records on waste generation and mangement;
  8. temporary storage practices - on site legal requirements;
  9. waste control management;
  10. mine residue deposits and stockpile management under the waste legislation; and
  11. obligations on the generator and holder of waste
 

Web based Risk and Opportunity Registers (Clause 6.1.1)

As required by the standard assists the organization to keep track of all the Risk and Opportunities identified that relate to the organizations Environmental Aspects, Compliance Obligations, Internal Issues and External Issues and the needs and expectations of its Interested and Affected Parties.

 

Web based Interested and Affected Party Registers (Clause 4.2)

The new ISO 14001:2015 standard requires an organization to identify the needs and expectations of its interested and affected parties, determine what their needs and expectations are and decide which of these needs and expectations becomes part of its compliance obligations.

This register lists all Interested and Affected Parties applicable to the organization along with their needs and expectations. It then outlines was process was followed to determine what needs and expectations form part of its compliance obligations and lists the needs and expectations that form part of its compliance obligations.

 

Web based Internal and External Issues Registers (Clause 4.1)

Clause 4.1 of the new ISO 14001 standard states that an organization must identify the Internal And External Issues that could affect the organizations ability to achieve the intended outcomes of its Environmental Management System.

This register helps the organization determine its context by identifying the Internal and External Issues that could affect the organizations ability to achieve the intended outcomes of its Environmental Management System.

 

Web based Competence Registers (7.2)

The competence Register assist the client in complying with clause 7.2 of the new ISO 14001 standard by assisting the organization in: identifying the competence of persons performing work under its control that could affect its environmental performance and its ability to fulfil its compliance obligations, determine the training needs associated with its environmental aspects and EMS, identify the training needs of persons performing work under its control, list the persons that require training as well as the type of training they require, evaluating the effectiveness of the actions taken to ensure training requirements are met.

 

Web based Roles and Responsibility Registers (Clause 5.3)

This register sets out the Roles and Responsibilities applicable to all persons performing work under its control applicable to the Environmental Management System and its compliance obligations.

 

Web based Other Compliance Obligations Register (6.1.3)

The other Compliance Obligation Register contains all the other requirements that an organization has to comply with e.g. Group requirements, excluding Legislative requirements, this however does include Water Use Licenses, Waste Management Licenses, Environmental Authorisations.

 

Web based Aspect Registers (6.1.2)

Web based Objectives and Action Plan Registers (6.2)

This register helps the organization set environmental objectives relevant at all functions and levels of the organization taking into account its significant environmental aspects, compliance obligations and risk and opportunities.

Further this register helps the organization plan and list the actions the organization plan to take to achieve its environmental objectives, by stating what will be done, what resources are required, responsible persons, completion dates and progress of its environmental objectives.

 

Web based Non-Conformance and Corrective Action registers (Clause 10.2)

Nonconformities applicable to the organizations Environmental Management System are listed in this Register along with the corrective and preventative actions that need to be taken to address the nonconformity, stating what will be done, what resources are required, responsible persons, completion dates and progress of its environmental action plans.
